I hope you all had a wonderful Valentines day yesterday and I truly hope you let yourself indulge in some way. Whether it was wine, dinner, dessert, candy, or all of them (me, truly) we all deserve it every once in a while! But that being said, this post is dedicated to helping you start your day off right after a night of eating or drinking more than you normally would.
Taylor and I picked a restaurant last night solely due to the fact that baked potato gnocchi was on their menu (Gram & Dun – anyone local, run, don’t walk), so don’t think I am not right there with you guys today. I had entirely too much wine, salad, gnocchi, and salmon, and as if that wasn’t enough, there was no chance I was going to pass up dessert on Valentine’s Day. All that to say, it was some of the best food I’ve ever had, it was such a great night, and I have no guilt about all the food we ate!
However this morning, I am not feeling so hot. After a night like last night, it’s so easy to have one of two thoughts: “holy cow, I am not eating all day”, or, “I fell off the wagon last night, it’s Wednesday, I’ll start again on Sunday”. I have had both, more times than I’d like to admit, neither one being a good option. Part of exercising “balance” in your diet, is not only physically allowing yourself to eat things you enjoy 20-30% of the time, but it’s also not feeling guilty for doing it.
The whole point of this post though, is to encourage you to wake up this morning without feeling guilt about one single calorie you ate yesterday, and to encourage you to start your day on the right foot. After a day like yesterday, I like to start my day with a smoothie. I definitely lacked fruits and veggies yesterday and making a smoothie is a sure fire way to get them in early on in the day. I normally just throw something together, but today I chose to use a Leap Smoothie packet to give my smoothie a boost of micronutrients and protein!
Leap smoothies are dairy free, non GMO, vegan, 100% raw, and they give smoothies great flavor and color (if the green freaks you out, I know it can be unappetizing but you will totally forget once you start eating it!). They also contain fiber, omega fats, vitamins, amino acids, and pea protein which is a great option if whey protein bothers your stomach!
For my smoothie bowl this morning here’s what I added –
- 1/2 cup cashew milk
- Leap Smoothie Pack: Blue Zeal
- 1/2 a frozen banana
- 1/2 an avocado (I promise you can’t taste it, gives it a smooth texture!)
- handful of spinach
- handful of ice – keep adding more until its super thick if you want it in a bowl, add less if you’re wanting to drink it!
